Old Mountain View – Alviso Road Bridge Replacement Project
The Old Mountain View-Alviso Road Bridge is located on Old Mountain View-Alviso Road between Patrick Henry Drive and Reamwood Avenue. It crosses over Calabazas Creek and is jointly shared between the City of Sunnyvale (to the west) and the City of Santa Clara (to the east). There is also a recreational trail that runs along the creek’s east side, under the bridge.

The project involved removing an existing vehicular bridge structure and replacing it with a new, wider American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) compliant structure. The new bridge accommodates two 12’ vehicular lanes, two 8’ bike lanes/shoulders, and two 5’ sidewalks; it is elevated to meet Santa Clara Valley Water District’s requirements for freeboard above the 100-year floodplain; it houses a new 10” potable water line, which will interconnect the Santa Clara and Sunnyvale water systems. Ancillary work to a water district maintenance road underneath the structure provides a pedestrian/bicycle connection to the Bay Trail.

The project was federally funded through the Highway Bridge Program (HBP), which is administered through Caltrans. Local match funds were provided by the cities of Santa Clara and Sunnyvale.

Park Engineering was a subconsultant to Vali Cooper, providing construction inspection for the project.
